A Tour of our Jojoba Farm |
|
|
|
| |
Welcome to our 940-acre farm in Arizona's Sonoran Desert. Located south of the Turtleback Mountains (elevation: 1254 feet) in the Hyder Valley, our farm comprises approximately 20% of all commercially farmed jojoba in the United States. Summer days are long and hot, with temperatures climbing to 120° F. Winter days can be very pleasant, though temperatures as low as 17° F could cause frost damage to the flowers on our plants.

Here are rows of jojoba plants, containing seed which ripens in Arizona's desert sun |

This is a close-up of jojoba seeds maturing in their husks. As the maturing seeds increase in size, the walls of their husks grow thinner, ultimately drying and cracking open, permitting the ripened jojoba seed to fall to the ground. |

Once the ripe jojoba seeds have fallen from their husks, we rake them from beneath the rows of plants so our harvester can pick them up from the ground. |

Once we've collected the ripe seed it is stored in large bins. |

From the bins we move the jojoba onto conveyor belts for cleaning. |

We then clean the seed by hand to remove any bad seed. |

Once it's been thoroughly cleaned, we bag the seed. These enormous bags are then staged for pressing. |

We press the seed only once. The result is 100% pure golden jojoba. |
